"I am on a diet. 4000 calories a day. That's what sumo wrestlers eat. Someday I'm going to be the world champion and then we won't have to be poor anymore." - Joey
A young boy grows to become a top sumo wrestler with a chance to become a champion and save his family from financial ruin.
Joey has always wanted to be a sumo wrestler. His dad was one, and he will
be one too. It’s what gets him up in the morning to throw down stuffed animal after stuffed animal. With the
encouragement and help of his Uncle Pete, Joey grows into a top sumo prospect. With his mother struggling to pay the
bills, Joe enters a contest to become a local sumo champion and win the money needed to save their house. The only
problem, is he must defeat “Crusher Callahan”, a 500lbs monster of a man who has never lost.
Sumo Joe was made for the 2010 168 Hour Film Festival. It was made and completed in less than a week, and was considered a top 20 film. In addition it won the "Best Trailer" of the festival award.
